I reached the last page of this book today…
it took me a while to finish. I just couldn’t consume it in a day, it would have been like eating a whole cake in one sitting. It was rich, deep and moving. I would read, process, rest, read, process and rest.
I have recently been introduced to new authors through She Reads and it has taken me out of my comfort zone. It has put before me story lines such as the one found in Daisy Chain (written by Mary E. DeMuth) that expose me to issues about which I know nothing, while at the same time shining light on God and His presence.
This story takes place in Defiance, Texas in the summer of 1977. Daisy Chance turns up missing. Like most traumatic situations, the best and worst are brought out in the citizens of this town. The secrets held by many individuals are magnified and explosive. While anger and guilt are apparent, the underlying sadness and fear shows through exposing the vulnerability many hold within them.
I have a hunch on who may have taken Daisy, but I will have to wait to find out if I am right. It is a trilogy, book 2, A Slow Burn is already on the shelf, the third book will be out in 2010.

I have just finished this book by Susan Meissner…in case you don’t know, I am on a quest to read all (or the majority) of her books…
This is a charming story about a jilted bride who opens a Bridal consignment shop after her impending marriage is called off ten days before she is to walk down the aisle.
A lovely aspect of her bridal shop is that each secondhand dress comes not only with a story to tell, but also with a blue satin heart sewn into it that brings a blessing.
You journey with Daisy Murien as she works through the “whys” of the situation. We stand next to her as she comes to grips with the reality that maybe her perception of the relationship with her ex-fiance was a little skewed, although this doesn’t make the break up any less painful.
In the midst of her healing she crosses paths with another hurting soul and the dance begins as they each travel the road to forgiveness, unconditional love and eventually to each other.
A sweet love story that left me smiling.

Just finished a book by one of my new favorite authors…Susan Meissner.
Now, that she is one of my new favorites, I have become a bit of a stalker and will read everything she has written. I am not sure why I do it, yet, I do. I don’t know if it because I am detailed oriented or if it is because I am a loyal friend which spills over into being a loyal reader? Perhaps, it is because I can trust a good thing once I find it.
Prepare yourself for a bunny trail…I would have been done a month ago, but, well, I lost the book! A library book on top of that! Checked the gym, thought maybe I lost it there the one time I went last month.
Checked the library, in case someone kindly returned it on my behalf. Never turned up around the house. I cleaned and vacuumed the car before going to PA and lived in the car for how many hours…16?
My husband found it between the two front seats tucked under the console. Yep, not sure how it got there, but the man is my hero. Can’t help but love the man even more for finding my unfinished book! After the initial comment that flew out of my mouth…”Oh, good I don’t owe the library $12.99.” (If I am going to buy a book I want to keep it!) I thanked him profusely.
I felt terrible while it was lost, it’s spot on the library shelf vacant. I thought I must owe the author a note of apology, I mean how would I feel if someone misplaced my baby? I just don’t think people do that though, send a note, so I proceeded to write it in my mind.
Anyway, it is a book worth reading! A mystery that I didn’t have figured out until it unfolded. A mixture of intuitive leading and fact gathering that weaves together to journey through the lives of the characters. You can feel the characters pain, fear and faith!
Have you read this book? If not, pick it up…I promise my copy will be back on the shelf in the next few days and who knows, this may become one of your new favorite authors!

I read alot of books about the Amish, again wishing for a simpler time, simpler life…
A new series by Beverly Lewis that I have read this month is -
The Secret, Seasons of Grace Series-Book #1
The Missing, Seasons of Grace Series-Book #2
This story intertwines the lives of an Amish family, the Byler’s, with the life of an Englisher, Heather Nelson. Heather has lost her Mom to cancer and is now faced with the reality of having terminal cancer herself. Not wanting to try the same treatment that left her Mom so weak and failed to heal her, Heather heads to Pennsylvania Amish country to seek healing from a Naturopath doctor.
Grace Byler’s Mom is troubled and is hiding a secret that leaves her feeling isolated from her family and eventually separates them. We walk with Grace as she takes on her Mother’s responsibilities, while at the same time she is making plans to go search for her Mother and bring her back. Another recent development in her life is that she has excepted a proposal that she questions is the best one for her.
Today I got an email from the library telling me that Sticks and Stones by Susan Meissener, is in and it’s got my name on it! What grand news on this whirling, windy, rainy day!

A Measure of Mercy is the first book in the Home to Blessings Series written by Lauraine Snelling, one of my favorite authors…she is on my “I read everything she writes” list. The excitement and anticipation of this new series has me jumping up and down as if I have old friends coming to town.
It all started with the Red River of the North series…a series that follows an immigrant family that comes from Norway and sets up a homestead in Blessings, North Dakota. The part of me that is sure that I was born in the wrong time period and longs for the simple, yet hard earned life takes up residence with this family as I read.
The matriarch of the family is Ingeborg Bjorklund, she is strong in faith, courage and determination. Her life is not without trials yet she lives it graciously. She is definitely a great example of a Proverbs 31 woman. The family endures disasters, births and deaths, hardship and victories as they come together as a community to raise up the town of Blessings.
The new series will chronicle the life of Astrid, the daughter of Ingeborg and Haakan. Astrid is a doctor and is attending medical school, trying to decide whether God is calling her to the mission field. Once again I enter into their world of family and friends and of course, there is a love interest.
So here is the run down -
Red River of the North Series Books #1-6
Daughters of Blessings Series Books #1-4
Home to Blessings Series - One book so far…next to release 3.01.10
Here is a video blip with the author talking about the series that I found on Christian Book Distributors…
I got a kick out of the fact that some people have read the complete series 7-8 times and know it by heart. The author in one of clips says that some people pray for Ingeborg…you’ll have to hear what she has to say about that.
Read on!

30. October 2009 by imoomie.
I have my favorite authors, the authors that I read every book they publish and can’t wait for them to publish something new.
Usually, during the summer I revisit a classic, or get inspired by a historic site we have visited. This year, I was interested in the life of Thomas Jefferson after visiting Monticello.
In August, at a Women’s conference called She Speaks they launched a new division called She Reads!
It is a helpful site to those looking for a great book suggestion and a gathering place for those who live to read. The aspect I have enjoyed the most so far is that they are introducing me to new authors. I guess it has brought me to the realization that I was in a little bit a reading rut.
The first book I have read is The Shape of Mercy by Susan Meissner. Sometimes books get you on the first page…for me it was page 12 while the main character, Lauren Durough, is having a conversation with her Mom on the phone.
“Lauren! You’re getting a job?” My mother didn’t sound alarmed or annoyed. Just surprised.
“Just a few hours a week, Mom. Anyway, I may not even get the job. The interview’s tomorrow.”
“Well, I’m sure if you’re being interviewed, you’ll get it,” she said, as only a mother can. Then, as if to prove she had no doubt I would get the job if I wanted it, she moved on. She reminded me that my Uncle Loring’s fiftieth birthday party had been moved up a week. She’d told me several days earlier that the two-day affair was now being held in two weeks instead of three because Uncle Loring had to go to Singapore. I told her I’d be there.
I don’t think Mom thought I had forgotten. She just wanted to remind me where I belonged.
I do that! I tell my responsible, smart older children over and over again what is coming up and remind them of what is on the schedule. I have often wondered why I have felt the need to do that when it seems to only be needed by me.
That is why…I know they haven’t forgotten, I just want them to remember where they belong!
This book is centered around the transcribing of a diary dated back four centuries during the time of the Salem witch trials. Most cannot resist the temptation to read someone else’s diary.
